A useful construction tutorial on Slope-Deflection Method and Support Settlement

This construction video briefly explains how slope-deflection method is applied to measure internal forces produced in an indeterminate beam that encounters support settlement.

The slope deflection is a useful method for structural analysis of beams and frames. The slope deflection method is also called as displacement method as it applies displacements as unknowns.

Under this method, if the slopes remains at the ends and the relative displacement of the ends are recognized, the end moment is associated with slopes, deflection, stiffness and length of the members.

Settlement in a structure stands for the distortion or disruption of parts of a building because of unsymmetrical compression of its foundations and shrinkage. Support settlement provides great effect on the strength and behavior of the indetermined beams.
